I’ve had a stressful day today – upset clients, a flood of work, legal issues, delayed buses, and so much more. It seems like I came out of the wrong side of the bed this morning and negative energies crashed down on me. I need my relaxation and an escape from it all!
For those days when nothing seems to be working out, follow one of these tips. (I sure will)
1) Relax & force the thoughts away
Committing to relaxing sounds easier than it really is. After a hard day, separating your thoughts and leaving your stress behind is a challenge. Lie back, close your eyes, and breathe in deeply. Force thoughts about your day out, push them away from your mind, and think of things that relax you.
2) Watch a documentary on astrophysics & ponder the insignificance of it all
Documentaries on the vastness of space really help put things into perspective – your problems easily become small, unimportant issues in comparison to the eternity of space and time in the universe.
3) Play some soft music to drown out your troubles
Ambient and classical music does the trick for me. Soft music used for spas is meant to place you in a state of mind of absolute relaxation. The calm beats and sounds will take you to the world away from your current location, as you dream about sitting in a Japanese garden away from all the chaos and stress.
4) Watch TV shows to forget your problems
Distract yourself from your day’s annoyances by watching TV shows and movies so you can focus on the experiences of others. Live their dramas, romances, jokes, and adventures and forget your own – at least temporarily.
5) Go for a jog & get your endorphin running
No better way to push the stress out of your mind and get some endorphin produced than by going out for a workout. Use your stress to push yourself and feel the benefits of the sweat melting away your troubles. There’s no going wrong here – exercise literally increases the neurotransmitters that make us happy.
6) Read your thoughts away
There’s nothing like a great book to transport you to a different world with amusing characters and exciting adventures. Forget the depressing plots and look for a book that will entertain you and bring a smile to your face. After all, you need an escape!
I relax by reading or watching a movie I already love.
Thanks for these helpful tips! How I wish we can avoid having a bad day…
I like to knit – gets my mind totally focused on something else!
These are great tips – I do a lot of them too! I also like to sit down with a nice cup of tea and put my feet up at the end of a lousy day. I’m British, so we solve every problem with tea. Haha!
Great article. Any tips to get rid of stress is great in my book. Thank you.
I don’t care for jogging, but any physical activity is great for relaxing. My favorite is yoga.
A nice glass of wine and a good book.
These were good ideas on how to relax at the end of a hard day. I know I like to sit back with a cold drink, a good book and some knitting.
I love escaping with a book! And sometimes taking a drive helps me clear my head too.
What great tips. I work in a daycare center, it may not sound like a stressful job, but it is! 🙂 I need some down time in the evening for sure.
Great ideas!! I usually relax by listening to Metallica or watching a move. 🙂
Reading and watching mindless TV shows work for me. I also use breathing techniques and relaxation CDs.
Reading or playing games.

I love documentaries. Last week I watched one on PBS about a man who has a theory that a famous Chinese admiral actually discovered the new world before Columbus. It was super interesting.
Reading is my ultimate relaxation, though. It always makes me feel better.
Reading, a hot bath, and listening to really loud music are my relaxation.
