The winter is in its full swing on the Northern Hemisphere, there is a lot of snow in almost all places and on some days, the weather is really bad. So the schools, kindergartens and the offices are closed. Yay for the snow day!?
Here are our favorite toddler snow day activities or why not to try these activities for rainy days.
1. Enjoy the snow
If the weather conditions permit, spend some time outside. Remember to bundle up your toddler, you don’t want them to get cold. There are different activities you can do outside – sledding, making snow angels and snowmen or just run around and enjoy the snow. Physical activities wear your kids out, so they sure will sleep better and fresh air might help to prevent colds and flu.
2. Cook or bake together
You and your toddler will be hungry after all the snow fun, so why not to cook or bake something together. Cooking together helps toddlers to learn new vocabulary, and to develop their sensory and motor skills. Toddlers usually love to help out – so have some easy kid friendly recipes in hand.

3. Blow and catch bubbles
My daughter loves bubbles! She loves to catch, pop and chase them! Playing with bubbles develops eye-hand coordination and gross motor skills, it also helps to learn about sizes (big/small) and shapes. This activity can be done both inside and outside. Let your toddler discover how bubbles freeze in a cold winter weather or if you are inside, let your kids get their hands wet and try to catch those fragile bubbles. Now, take out your bubble gear and start blowing!
4. Get crafty
There are hundreds of fun and educational crafts to choose from. Smaller kids enjoy finger painting, playdough and sticker art, while the bigger ones might enjoy ball art, creating mosaics or using a rainbow salt tray. Try to choose crafts where toddlers don’t have to stay put for a long time, as they get bored really fast.

5. Snuggle up in a bed
Snuggle up in a bed and read your favorite books, watch family photo albums and have a pillow battle. Play toddler-friendly board games, jump on a bed or pull out your toddler’s favorite movies and watch them together.
When my kids are home for snow days, they spend most of their time outside, but sometimes we fit in some baking, too. Fun ideas.
We are actually having a fairly nice day for a change. I like your ideas though and may use some of them when my Grandson comes to visit.
Great suggestions! Although we live in Florida, so we’ll just switch out the word “snow” for “torrential downpour” LOL
Some great ideas for snow days with the toddlers. It has been so cold here outdoor activity may not work though. Hopefully it will warm up soon,
Eek, I see my playdough recipe on your board! Thanks so much! These are such great idaes. Another thing we’ve been doing on these blistering cold days is playing with beans and toy tractors/trucks on a cookie sheet. Toddler boy LOVES that one!
🙂
Elise, I really loveyour playdough recipe! 😉
I do not have any children but I think all the above are great ideas to keep them busy and happy! I especially like the snuggling in bed and reading–although making a snowman I could see me getting into.
My favorite thing to do on a rare snow day is stay inside and bake!
We love to snuggle up and watch movies. If there is actually enough snow, the snowballs would be fun though 🙂
It doesn’t ever snow where we live but on a rainy day we like to watch movies and do crafts. Baking is always a fun option too.
I have been snuggling with my baby all day. It’s nice! Maybe we will make cupcakes later! 🙂
I love all your tips. My grandson and I usually bake and then curl up and read books. Its a little to cold in the negatives for us to go out and play in the snow so baking will have to do for now.
These are all great tips. I’m looking forward to knocking out a few off your list with my little man.
these are great tips son and i love to bake together he is getting really good at it. plus bubbles are always fun
These are great ideas – believe it or not, they do want to mingle and have fun with us inside the kitchen too.
I feel like a little kid reading this. I was born and raised in Florida and just got word that we are relocating to Idaho – I can not wait to play in the snow!! Thank you for the tips because I will certainly need them.
Oh the joy of childhood in the snow…. I love your tips yet as I look outside and see the frozen driveway I wonder…lol! 🙂
Snuggle up in bed is my favorite lol We try to take my son out a few times a week but it’s been really cold up here.
snuggling in the morning is so precious when they’re little. 🙂 I love your list!
We love to bake when the weather gets snowy. Today was the perfect day for it as we got another couple inches dumped on us.
Great tips. I really love that blow bubbles. My toddler used to be afraid of bubbles but has recently found out that she loves them. It’s not just a summer thing.
Love your tips, thanks for sharing. A friend of mine in the snow was saying they used food coloring to play in the snow with the kids to keep them busy during these snow days
The food coloring idea is really interesting!
Great tips! Specially snuggle up in bed!!!
Great image if baby having fun in the snow!
Great tips i think the snuggle up in bed one would be my choice lol,my kiddies love the snow.
We like to be lazy and snuggle on snow days! Unfortunately I have to find time to work, but spending extra minutes laying around with my littles is my priority!
These are the kinds of things I did with my kids. You’re right on the money. We did lots of crafts and baking together. It was so much fun!
These are all great activities. I personally could use the snuggle up in bed one right now! Alas, when my son was a toddler, he was not easy to get settled into nap time.
Great ideas! These are not only good for toddlers, but older kids too! I like to get my girls crafting and baking on these yucky snow days!
I could not find my snow boots yesterday since we RARELY see it! But Chef John was home (also rare) and he played with the kids outside in the snow for a while… their first time really! They had a lot of fun. Then we watched a movie and just had play time inside. These are great ideas!!
Beautiful and fun tips! Gotta do more indoor activities with little kids these cold days.
All we did was craft, craft, craft, and more craft hahaha. We did not dare to play in the snow as it was frigid here. Thanks for these tips.
This is a great way to keep the kids active on snow days.
We don’t get much snow where we live (like two drops every one hundred years!) but we do love bubbles and snuggling up in bed with books! So happy I’ve found your blog. xx
We are definitely trying to fend off cabin fever! By February my kids are itching to be outside and most days it’s just too cold here. But, I love your idea about blowing bubbles! The will love that!
